Dee Tyrer’s Visit: 2023

Monday:

On Monday, Dee tyrer and Peter visited Joy Children’s Centre, a multifaceted institution encompassing a home for abandoned children, primary, and junior secondary sections. The visit unveiled significant enhancements in both equipment and infrastructure facilities, creating an environment conducive to learning. Notably, the children are thriving under the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), setting them on a promising educational journey.

Tuesday:

Dee’s engagement continued on Tuesday when she met with the Directors of Watoto Kwanza at Thika Golf Club. The meeting marked a significant milestone as a revised Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and a Child Protection Charter were signed. These documents reaffirm our commitment to safeguarding the welfare and safety of the children in our program schools, aligning with Kenya’s dedication to international children-related charters and its Children’s Act of 2001, which prioritizes child protection.

Additionally, the meeting explored strategies to enhance the sanitary and hygiene program, with a particular focus on the junior secondary section within primary schools. It was also agreed upon to intensify local fundraising efforts and partnerships to further empower our initiatives.

Wednesday:

On Wednesday, Dee Tyrer met with the Children’s Legal Support Team, led by Lawyer Dan Wambeu. These discussions fostered a deeper understanding of legal aspects surrounding our programs, ensuring that they adhere to the highest standards of legality and ethics.

Dee Tyrer’s visit has been a blessing for Joy Children’s Centre and its mission to transform communities through educational support interventions. The progress and future outlook of our programs and partnerships have been greatly enriched by her insights and commitment.

Looking ahead, we are excited about the potential for international volunteers, including those from the UK and other countries, to contribute to our cause, fostering exposure and confidence building opportunities for all involved. Dee Tyrer has expressed her willingness to explore this avenue upon her return to the UK.

As Dee Tyrer prepares to depart on Thursday, September 20th, 9 am, her visit leaves an indelible mark on our journey towards brighter futures for the children in our care. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to her and all our supporters for their unwavering dedication to our cause.
