The Peter Tyrer Kitchen (Kiama Primary School Kitchen)

The construction of a new kitchen at Kiama Primary School marks a significant milestone in the efforts of Watoto Kwanza Kenya (WKK) to improve educational infrastructure and enhance the learning environment. Funded by the African Children’s Fund (ACF), this project has set a new benchmark as the largest kitchen constructed under WKK’s program. Named the ACF/WK Kenya Peter Tyrer Kitchen, this facility honors the legacy of Peter Tyrer, the founder of ACF, and recognizes the continuing contributions of his wife, Dee Tyrer. This report outlines the journey from project conception to completion, detailing the activities, challenges, and outcomes.

Existing Challenges before contruction.
1. Lack of a Dedicated Kitchen: Meals for students were previously prepared in makeshift setups, which were inadequate for the school’s growing population.
2. Storage Issues: Food supplies were stored in non-ideal conditions, leading to inefficiencies and potential wastage.
3. Health and Safety Concerns: The absence of proper facilities posed risks to hygiene and food safety.

Groundbreaking Gesture: Blessing the Start of the Project
